ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked social and economic havoc across the globe. This article addresses an aspect of trust that has not received wide attention in the context of the pandemic: how relational trust can affect compliance behaviour with health campaigns. This article uses a unique dataset of people receiving a COVID test after suspicion of infection. We use regression analysis to study the relation between compliance with mobility restrictions and institutional and relational trust. We find that trusting that close relations will be there for you in the case of falling ill is associated with a significant increase in the probability of complying with health campaigns as is trust that public institutions will respond appropriately to the pandemic. Additionally, we find no statistical relationship between compliance and trust in media outlets nor compliance and trust that community members (neighbours, co-workers or others) will care for you. The findings suggest that enhancing trust may improve compliance with mobility restrictions, however, increasing trust in specific groups may not aid in the effectiveness of some health campaigns. Importantly, nudging people towards compliance could be achieved by emphasising in campaigns that your behaviour could influence the health of those who you care about.

ABSTRACT

Objective: to explore the current knowledge about mental health among Nursing professors faced with the challenges of distance learning, as well as to describe their performance during the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on mental health. Methods: an integrative review in the PubMed, LILACS, Web of Science and SciELO databases, from 2016 to 2021, and in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Minayo's thematic analysis was conducted with those documents selected. Results: forty-two (42) documents were selected. Two thematic areas were determined: 1. Elements which define the mental health of Nursing professors currently: distance methodologies hinder the delivery of contents, and high levels of anxiety are also detected among students and professors;the latter are exposed to heavy workloads in this new scenario, which have an impact on their mental health. 2. How to strengthen the mental health of Nursing professors faced with uncertain sociosanitary scenarios? An intervention in the mental health of professors is necessary, with improvements and reinforcement in the face of current exhaustion. Institutional policies orientated to improving this work are essential for their mental health, as well as to enhance the quality of on-line courses. Conclusions: although Nursing has demonstrated being a profession able to adapt to the new challenges of remote learning, this process has had an impact on their mental health, and it is necessary to implement strategies to protect it. © 2022 DAE Editorial, Grupo Paradigma. ABSTRACT

Covid-19 as a health problem has generated a health and care crisis for the population, especially leading psychologists to examine new forms of care for people. The objective of this research was to compare the results of the clinical practice process in person, by telepsychology and alternately, developed by psychology students from higher education institutions in the Colombian Caribbean in the context of Covid-19;through a mixed study, including quantitative and qualitative data collection through online forms, applied to a sample of 105 students and 6 internship tutors from two Higher Education Institutions located in Barranquilla and Sincelejo. The results show that both telepsychology and face-to-face and alternation allow the development of clinical skills in students such as interviews, observations, evaluations, psychoeducation and intervention, and that practice tutors are satisfactorily valued as facilitators of these knowledge and skills, using different strategies and technological resources for it. It is concluded that the three modalities allow to carry out the training practices in health in a satisfactory manner, especially if accompanied by tutors with a high degree of commitment, empathy and adequate instruction © 2023, Revista de Ciencias Sociales. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Covid-19 was declared a global pandemic by the WHO on 11 March 2020. From the beginning, the pandemic posed a challenge to the different health systems around the world, which were forced to prioritise and distribute their resources as efficiently as possible. During the period between 11 March 2020 and 28 April 2021, the Regional ECT Unit of the Region of Murcia remained closed. Objective(s): - Determine the clinical status of patients on maintenance ECT in the Regional ECT Unit during the Covid-19 pandemic. - Prioritise resumption of treatment in those who were clinically decompensated or at risk - Understand the consequences of discontinuation of maintenance ECT for these patients. Method(s): A longitudinal descriptive study was conducted during the month of May 2020. Result(s): Thirty-seven patients were contacted by telephone. On the first call, a total of 15 patients were unstable or at risk of decompensation. Prior to the second call, CT was administered preferentially to a total of 8 patients and programmed to 2. On the second call, a total of 11 patients were at risk of decompensation. Conclusion(s): The closure of the Regional ECT Unit had negative consequences for patients undergoing maintenance treatment. Electroconvulsive therapy is an essential part of the treatment of psychiatric patients both in acute episodes and in relapse prevention.

ABSTRACT

Background The Elizabethkingia genus is formed by a group of bacteria which are widely distributed in nature. Elizabethkingia is not part of human microbiota, therefore is considered to be an opportunistic pathogen. In the last years, it has become a cause of potentially fatal disease, becoming an emerging bacteria of increasing relevance. The objective of this study is to describe the impact of Elizabethkingia bacteria in infected patients in the ICU of a hospital in Granada. Methods Descriptive study. Patients who have been isolated in a biological sample of Elizabethkingia miricola throughout the year 2.021 in the ICU of San Cecilio University Hospital in Granada. Date and place of isolation were registered. Other variables registered were sex, age, length of ICU stay, days between ICU admission and bacterium isolation, days between bacterium isolation and death, infection, cause of admission or cause of death. Results Bacterium was isolated in 15 patients. Cause of admission was COVID-19 in 73.3% of patients. 73.3% were men and 26.6% women. The average age was 56.9 years. The average length of ICU stay was 43.8 days. 4 patients were diagnosed with ventilator-associated pneumonia and 5 patients were diagnosed with tracheobronchitis. The average days between ICU admission and bacterium isolation was 26,4 days. The average days between mechanical ventilation and bacterium isolation was 25.9 days. 53.3% of patients died. The average days between bacteria isolation and death was 18.2 days. Conclusions Elizabethkingia miricola is an emerging bacterium under special vigilance due to its capacity to cause major morbidity and mortality in admitted patients in ICU. The rapid identification and the study of the antibiotic susceptibility is considered of special relevance so they can be correctly managed to avoid infections and complications resulting from this microorganism. Key messages • Elizabethkingia is a special surveillance bacterie due to its morbidity and mortality effects. • Elizabethkingia could be a severity indicator in admitted patients to the ICU.

ABSTRACT

The bimodal education model adopted by some spanish universities during the post-confinement period has been based on making presentiality, and nonpresentiality, teaching compatible, in order to adapt satisfactorily to the new reality of university classrooms. The leap to virtuality last year allowed us to enrich the traditional teaching model with respect to the future, and the course of the current year leads us to the combination of both types of education, presentiality, and virtual, whose main contribution is to provide continuity to a school year, and also, to achieve flexibility in pedagogical strategies. In addition, the rethinking of the teaching learning process has involved an important restructuring of spaces and processes that ensure not only the health of all members of the university community, but also quality teaching to promote the permanent intellectual and personal development of students. in the time. The success of the social transformation in which we are immersed depends largely on education;therefore, the educational community must adjust itself adequately to these new circumstances. In the future, it will be important to inquire with perspective about the impact of all the changes caused by COVID in the teaching and learning process of students and teachers. A transcendental aspect will be to know the progress of students in the post-pandemic era and adopt the pedagogical actions that are necessary to adapt to this new scenario.

ABSTRACT

Background: Knowledge about SARS-CoV2 infection in pregnancy and exposed newborns is deficient. We performed a longitudinal analysis of innate immune system status and determined soluble cytokines of women infected with SARS-CoV2 during pregnancy and their newborns Methods: Women with confirmed SARS-CoV2 infection (RT-PCR+ or SARS-CoV2 anti-IgM/IgG+) (COVID MOTHER group, CM n=29, median age of 31 years) and their SARS-CoV2 exposed uninfected newborns were recruited from Hospital Gregorio Marañón, Spain. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), cord cells and plasma were collected at birth and 6 months later (n=15). The immunophenotyping of innate components (natural killer cells [NK] and monocytes) was studied on cryopreserved PBMCs and cord cells by multiparametric flow cytometry. Up to 4 soluble pro/anti-inflammatory cytokines were assessed in plasma and cord plasma by ELISA assay. CM was compared to a healthy non-SARS-CoV2 infected mothers' group matched by age (SARS-CoV2 PCR-and SARS-CoV2 anti-IgM/IgG-)(Uninfected Mothers, UM n=16) and their newborns (n=16) Results: On NK cell assays, CM show at baseline lower percentage of CD16++ subset, higher NKG2D and lower NKG2A expression on CD16++ and CD56++ subsets and reduced CD57 expression compared to UM;proportion of CD16++ subset and percentage of NKG2D reverted after 6 months(A). Regarding monocytes, CM show increased levels of CD62L and decreased CD49d expression on classical subset, elevated intermediate monocytes proportion and decreased CD40 expression on patrolling subset(B). No differences were found 6 months later. No newborn was infected by SARS-CoV2 and the phenotype analyzed on cord cells shows lower frequency of NK subsets compared with unexposed children and increased CD16++ subset after 6 months(C). In monocytes distribution, exposed children present lower frequency of total monocytes and its subsets than unexposed. Classical monocytes show significant changes at follow-up time-point(D). Increased TNFα and IL10 levels were found on CM compared to UM. Strong and direct correlations were observed between the age and IL6(E). No differences were observed in soluble cytokine levels comparing both groups of newborns Conclusion: SARS-CoV2 infection during pregnancy shows differences in activation, maturation and endothelial markers on innate immune system that could lead newborns clinical implications at birth. However, altered cell proportions and phenotypes found at SARS-CoV2 at birth time and on their exposed newborns is later reverted.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To know the effects of the cinema-debate at home, in the cultural meanings of the concept of retirement and on the experiences of retirement, in a Mexican family, confined by the Covid-19 pandemic. Methodology: Exploratory descriptive study with pre-experimental intervention, pre-test, intermediate and post-test evaluation. Four women participated, three retirees and their university granddaughter. The intervention program was integrated with a cinema series of eight films for retirees. In the pre-test and post-test, the free lists were used and analyzed through the model of cultural domains. For the intermediate evaluation, the focus group was used, its data obtained were analyzed based on phenomenology. Results: The participants expanded and re-signified their cultural meaning on the concept of retirement. Before the intervention, they defined the concept as rest, retirement and tranquility. After the intervention, it meant happiness and tranquility. They reflected on their own retirement process and became aware of the social problems of retirement. The sequential projection of the films contributed positively to the results obtained. Conclusions: In times of pandemic, retirement training can be continued through cinema-debate at home. © 2022 University of Salamanca. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health workers has been studied on an international level. However, mental health workers, who are also called upon to address such ailments both in the general population as well as in the health personnel, have not been asked about their experiences. METHODS: Seventy mental health workers in five regions of Argentina were interviewed between May and June 2020 regarding the subjective impact of changes in their work due to the pandemic. The responses were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. RESULTS: The results indicate emotions and experiences associated with a negative impact, in connection to feelings of tiresome, uncertainty, fear, anguish and anxiety and, to a lesser extent, some positive impacts are also described. More than a third of participants mentioned mixed feelings (i.e., being surprised, ambivalent, alert and sensitive). CONCLUSIONS: The personnel who are supposed to support the rest of the health workers are affected and experience having been relegated one more time to other aspects within the health care system. Focusing on learnings, having management roles, counting on colleagues, and agreeing with macro policies could be protective factors against the difficulties associated with the changes in work that the pandemic has imposed.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Nursing homes have suffered in a particularly pronounced way from the effects of COVID-19 so it is very convenient to know the evolution in them of the disease and the impact of SARS-CoV2 vaccination The objective of this study was to analyze COVID-19 pandemic evolution from the start of the second wave to the end of the vaccination campaign at the nursing homes. A coordination program between Primary Care and Geriatrics and Public Health services was activated. METHODS: 2,668 seniors were followed at 39 nursing homes. Data from new cases, active cases, mortality and place of treatment of COVID-19 were collected. A descriptive analysis was performed with the measurement of the absolute number of positive SARS-CoV-2 cases and the frequency distribution. RESULTS: Between August 7th 2020 and February 26th 2021, 30 outbreaks occurred at 21 nursing homes. 300 people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 (11% of total residents). The daily average of active cases was 27,166 were hospitalized (55%). 66 patients died (22% of those infected), 54 of them (78%) at the hospital. 1,984 PCR tests were performed. The temporary profile of new cases did not follow a distribution "in waves" as in the community. Thirty-seven days after the start of the second dose of vaccination, there were no active cases until March 1st, when new cases were under study for possible vaccine leakage. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of COVID-19 at nursing homes after the first wave of the pandemic has apparently been lower. The transmission in these centers has followed a different distribution than at community. Mass vaccination has achieved the practical disappearance of the disease.

ABSTRACT

The global tourism reality is changing, and not only because of the COVID‐19 pan-demic. This reality is especially representative in countries such as Spain, which are highly de-pendent on the income generated by the tourism sector. In these destinations, it is necessary to seek innovation and specialization in the sector in order to achieve new business models. This need is even more pressing in destinations overcrowded by the sun and beach effect, as is the case of Mallorca. The proposed work combines the concepts of sports tourism with the development of a wealth‐generating business model that will contribute to promoting a tourism that is sustainable, environmentally friendly and deseasonalized. On the other hand, the proposed work will contribute to promoting integration and equality in the participation of women in sports through the development of a model based on the promotion of women’s football. Using the methodology of case analysis, the results of all the approaches outlined are provided, and we obtained a wealth‐generation model that is easily replicable and sustainable over time. This work provides a solution to the combination of a sustainable business model that links responsible tourism, the promotion of women’s sport and the generation of wealth. © 2021 by the authors.
